We are very thrilled to announce that our Club has been invited to participate with Bowls and Croquet for the Teacher Games to be held at Club Mount on October 1st. Teams will be made up of pairs competing in all three sports during the day.

This is a wonderful opportunity for our club to promote Petanque to Teachers who can then introduce this sport to their students. As we all know it is thoroughly enjoyable sport which can be enjoyed by all ages and all abilities.

St Patricks Day Results – 17 March, 2019

This year we re-established the New World Cup challenge which used to be held annually between Whakatane, Rotorua and Tauranga Club.

28 players attended to play throughout the day for the mixed drawn open doubles games.

Before play commenced a minutes silence was held for victims and families of Christchurch.

Not only did everyone who attended enjoy some great games but they also enjoyed plenty of Irish music, morning and afternoon tea catered for by our members, a wonderful sausage sizzle BBQ lunch expertly manned by our very own Malcolm McGill  and a few cold beverages from the Club Mt. Maunganui bar facilities with Uli Hoppe acting as chief drinks ‘runner’ .

Umpires for the day were John Schofield (Tauranga) and Pauli Jalava (Rotorua)

Winners of the Cup were Tauranga (Brenda Reid & Luis Volicci were our top scorers)

Top Points Scored was won by Whakatane’s Johan Groeneveld

Top Woman Player was our own Brenda Reid

And Wooden Spoon plus most penalty cards received was awarded to Rotorua’s ‘young’ Mike.

All the clearing up completed a few members of Tauranga and Rotorua Clubs enjoyed a few bowls of Club Mt. Chips along with the odd refreshing cold drink before heading home.

It really was a great fun day with loads of laughs, good games, wonderful food and drink.

All teams voted to re-establish the Tri-Club Challenge annually on the nearest Sunday to St. Patrick’s Day which it was agreed should continue to be hosted by Tauranga Club!
